Guest coach on 30th October

On Thursday 30th October we welcome a guest coach from Canada, Chris Nicol, who is in Scotland for 3 months hosting coaching clinics.

Coach Nicol is a life-long coach and former collegiate athlete. He is currently employed as both an instructor and head basketball coach at Grande Prairie Regional College He has been a head coach at the CCAA collegiate level for 15 years. During his 33 years behind the bench, he has worked with all levels from elementary, junior high, high school and college aged athletes.

We are delighted he has agreed to visit our club and am sure he will be impressed with our players' basketball skills.

Award winners and goodbyes

Thursday 29th May was a sad day at North Berwick Basketball Club as Marie Caie held her last coaching session. It was the end of season session for P5s, P6s and P7s so each of the groups had games followed by trophy presentations. The P7s were joined by coaches and past members for a mini tournament played on the full size court with the 10 foot baskets, a taste of what's to come in High School!

Our award winners were :

Primary 5

  • Most Valuable Player - Ethan Hinton
  • Coaches' Awards - Fraser Street and Sarah Tyrell

Primary 6

  • Most Valuable Player - Cameron Campbell
  • Coaches' Awards - Stuart Hagan and Lucy Mitchell

Primary 7

  • Most Valuable Player - Finn Baxter
  • Coaches' Awards - Scott Patey and Rachel Gleeson

Marie was delighted to receive a card and a gift voucher from the players and their families and flowers and a cake from the committee. Val Gray and Clare Mackle also step down this year and were presented with flowers.

Marie in her leaving speech highlighted how bright the future is for North Berwick Basketball Club with a great new coach in Craig Nicol and a brilliant committee with Jeanette and Kathleen staying on and Liz Noar and Anne Goodall joining.

We wish the Primary 7s good luck at High School and hope they continue to enjoy playing basketball.

Last sessions and last Junior Jam of the season

This Thursday 29th sees the last session of this season at the Club and will be Marie's last ever session. It will also be the Primary 7s last ever session and what a fantastic group they have been. They have been one of the most talented groups Marie has ever coached and it was great to see this reflected in Scotland selection for Owen, Shaun and Finn (not forgetting Rosie, Cameron and Murray in P6 who were selected for Scotland under 11s). We wish the Primary 7s well in High School and hope they continue to play basketball. They will have an opportunity to meet the High School basketball coaches at their session and will be invited to start coming along to the High School basketball sessions now.
